The Butterworker Team
Anne Lazor
FOUNDING FARMER, farm owner and duck and chicken wrangler
Anne and Jack Lazor came to Westfield in 1976 and worked together developing and operating Butterworks Farm together for 48 years. As long-time sustainable farmers and leaders in organic farming they have played an important role in the dynamics and operations at Butterworks and beyond. Jack was a writer and frequent inspirational speaker at organic farming conferences everywhere. He enjoyed food, friends and pursuing his passions- sustainable farming and soil science. Anne kept Jack and the farm running as Jack’s home dialysis technician for 7 years. Jack died in November 2020. Anne continues to enjoy growing apples and berries, experimental no-till gardening, playing cello, keeping chickens and ducks, the study of homeopathic medicine and upholding the homesteading spirit she and Jack started with years ago.
Christine
FARMER & MARKETER
Christine Lazor has been present and involved at Butterworks since around 1980. Connecting with customers, buyers, farmers and food enthusiasts (and sometimes serving product samples in stores and at events) have always been important to for her. Moving cow pasture and taking care of calves and fresh cows (new moms) are her favorite tasks on the farm. Christine has past experience in food service and massage therapy, but has mainly devoted her past 20 years to Butterworks Farm, Collin and their children. Her love for the land, the team, the cows, and the mountains keep her inspired. She loves developing recipes, cooking food, growing and giving flowers and enjoys a variety of art, music and pets.
Collin
FARMER
Collin has been part of the Butterworks farm and family since 2000. He is a full time farmer and lives on the farm. Originally from Lamoille County, he has worked on farms, in the woods, painting, and construction. His favorite Butterworks product is the whole plain yogurt paired with curry or other spicy food. When he is not working on the farm he enjoys time with family, drawing, skiing, learning new things and listening to music.
Steven
FARM & FIELD WORKER/MECHANIC
Steven grew up in Vermont farming and fixing farm equipment and vehicles with his grandfather in Stowe. Steven has been enjoying the variety of jobs and tasks at Butterworks since 2018. When he is not at work he and his three sons love to swim, fish, explore and go four wheeling. Maple yogurt is Steven and his family’s favorite Butterworks product.
Samantha
HERD MANAGER
Samantha studied Environmental Science and Outdoor Ed at Northern Vermont University (Johnson). She has always loved and worked with animals at home, at a shelter and at Butterworks Farm since 2019. She also has hospitality and library experience. Jerseys are her favorite cows. She appreciates the life-learning and problem-solving of farming. Samantha takes a lot of great photos at work- you can find them on our website and social. Her favorite products are the lemon yogurt and the orange sunshine kefir- she is a citrus fan. For fun Sam enjoys crafting, snowboarding, hiking, climbing, biking and kayaking as well as hanging out with her cat, dogs, chickens, ducks (and steer).
Erica Wilson
GENERAL MANAGER
Erica joined us in September of 2020 and has been a positive organizational force and source of inspiration in our family business. She has been learning and working in all parts and aspects of Butterworks. Her background includes horse farming, equine eventing and trail riding as well as management work in the hospitality and the ski business. She enjoys spending time with the cows and people at Butterworks. Her favorite product is the Whole milk plain yogurt. On her days off she loves to spend time with her family and go skiing, camping and paddle boarding.
Nathan
FARM & FIELD WORKER
Nathan has extensive farming, firewood and logging experience. He specialized in Natural Resources in high-school. Nate has been with Butterworks since 2017. At work he keeps the cows comfortable and fed and appreciates the different types of farm work he gets involved with. In his free time Nate likes family time, four wheeling and biking or playing in puddles with his son. His favorite Butterworks products are the maple and orange sunshine kefir.
Adam
YOGURT MAKER
Adam joined the Butterworks Farm production team in March of 2023 and has already settled on a Butterworks favorite; Buttermilk pancakes made by his son. In his spare time, Adam is an adventurer and enjoys high-adrenalin activities like mountain biking, snowmobiling and navigating crazy off-road motor vehicle races. Interesting fact: Adam’s background with the US Coast Guard prepared him for Yogurt Production! From managing the creamery’s intricate pipe and pump systems (vat pasteurization and filling machines can be tricky!) to the ability to be hyper-focused when crafting cultured dairy products, to his positive attitude and sense of humor even under pressure – we are very glad he’s aboard!
Jenny
SALES MANAGER
Jenny met the Lazor family, Butterworks team, and all the pretty girls (our cows) while making a Know Your Farmer video for Real Organic Project in 2019. This adventure led to the production of a 3o minute documentary about Jack Lazor called Soul of the Soil, made over the course of 2 years with filmmaker André Costantini, which premiered on VT Public in September of 2022. Afterwards, she just stuck around! Jenny enjoys gardening ( a lot – like, a lot, a lot), raising chicks, cooking, Lake Champlain, walking in the woods, and all things art and music. Her favorite Butterworks product is the Orange Sunshine Kefir.
